It is important for health care professionals to develop
spiritually, physically and psychologically because it helps them to be better
professionals. One cannot practice what one cannot relate to. As professionals
we must also be able to teach our patients an abundance of information. If one
is not developed then how can we expect anyone to take us seriously or be able
to convey facts. In order to achieve the goals that I have set forth for myself
I need to develop my ability to remain patient, focused and the ability to
clear my mind of all negativity.
I have assessed my health in each of the domains according
to where I am currently and where I want to go in the future. I am comfortable
with my progress as of now but know I can do better and achieve more. At this
present time I would rate my spiritually at a nine. I feel there is always room
to become closer to a higher power and more spiritually inclined and I am on my
way to reaching it. Physically I am working on becoming stronger. I am
currently rating myself as a 5 but know that I am on the rack track to reaching
a 10. I started a workout regimen and began to eat healthier and am down 15
lbs. I couldn't be happier with my beginning efforts and this will keep me
motivated to go further. Psychologically I would rate myself at a 7. Within
this process I am learning to look deeper inside myself for the answers that I
seek. I am learning to remain calm and to always see the positives in every
situation. With those tools plus keeping calm and remaining kind I am working
towards becoming stronger mentally and physically.
A physical goal for myself would be the ability to reach and
maintain a healthy weight. I want to reach a healthy weight not just for myself
but for my children and my family. Currently I have no major health issues and
I don’t want any so I am being proactive to ensure that this does not happen. A
psychological goal that I have for myself is the ability to rid myself of
negative people who imply negative thoughts and actions in my life. I have
goals for myself and my future and sometimes we encounter people who say they “wish
you well” but really wish you “not to succeed”. I am remaining focused and if I
come across those types of people I poses the knowledge and strength to keep
them out of my life.
Practices for personal health can be applied to several
aspects of a person’s life. For my physical aspect and to remain healthy I have
been exercising to “Shawn T’s Insanity and Walking”. I feel these are 2 good
cardio burning activities that will help me reach my target heart rate and my
goals. Psychologically I achieve personal growth by remaining positive and
continuing to follow the practices of meditation that we learned in the course.
This helps me with keeping a clear head and attaining my goals. Spirituality I
stay focused by praying, remaining thankful and having lots of conversations
with my higher being throughout the day.
My progress for the next six months will be re-evaluated and
re-assessed by making a list and giving myself a time frame to achieve some of
these goals. One goal that I can check off my list soon will be receiving my
bachelor’s degree. I will have this goal checked off in the next four months. I
also plan to change my goals if needed. This is because sometimes plans don’t
always go accordingly so if plans change then I will be ready.
